Afterwards, I changed the levels slightly to make the lower part of the photo slightly darker like one of Swarc's photos.

I changed the brightness and contrast, so that they are both higher.
In the photo I analysed of Swarc, the girl wore formal attire. However, the subject in mine wore casual clothing. This was done because the background isn't especially formal. This casual clothing is more apparent in young children now, so it could connect more to the young women. By looking the camera in the eye, she is appearing angry - perhaps at the stereotypes women have to been labelled with. Her casual clothing to contrast with the background can be viewed as a rebellious act against these views. The light blue tones of the bed and feminine pattern with the pink birds and delicate plants and flowers contrasts with the ruffy apparence of the subject and her clothing.

I turned my image black and white.
I used the gradient tool to make a vignette.
A texture was put onto a new layer.
I used textures like Ashley Whitts photos. The photo contrasts with the meaning of Swarc's photographs. I wanted to try to make a photography that portrays a woman that is working whilst maintaining her feminine side and the idea of a young girl. For example Elizabeth Garret Anderson who was a suffragette and a co-founder of the first hospital to staff women. The texture was applied to portray that the stereo type of women began to defuse years ago. The self-satisfied pose reinforces this. Women can now be powerful. The reason that she is still typically "feminine" is because the stereotype that women should be feminine is still something young girls grow up believing they should be to impress others. |
Then changed the brightness and contrast.
And changed the birghtness and contrast again.
Then I changed the texutre layer to an 'overlay' and then changed the opacity.
