Ulric Collette is a photographer who takes photos of people who are related and Photoshop's their face together - half and half. This illustrates how the two people are related somehow, as the features of both people appear to be similar in one manner or another. Ulric does these photos around the world for people who want to see how alike they really look to their parents, sister, brother or another relative. The way it seems blended together gives the appearance that it is one person, suggesting that the two subjects are, despite every environmental factor and emotional barrier, one and the same because of the blood the two share (they are relatives). The two people (probably father and son) are wearing the same, or very similar clothing. By doing so, it is also reinforcing the previous inference.
In Collette's photo's there is a high contrast in order to highlight and define the differences and similarities of the two. By having the background plain it allows us to focus solely on the subjects and their features. The vignette surrounding the person also allows this to happen, as your eyes are draw to lighter areas. The lighter areas of the background highlight the person so your eyes are drawn there. The angle is straight on, the facial expression neutral. The neutral facial expression allows the person to Photoshop their faces easier together. The composition of the faces allows the person to be drawn to face and the two different sides it has. |
