Samantha Pugsley takes photographs that represent her anxiety.
In the first photo their is plently of space. The emptiness in the window (the blackness) contrast to the wood and it's pattern. The line of the wood leads your eyes to the subject of the photo. The place green of the wood contrasts to the dark black in the window area. She is pale also, which contrasts to the black too. There is a lot of green and black and by having only a little of her pale skin and skirt, it draws attention to her. The colours being like this make the photo relatively eerie - very ghostly, as if it is fading away. This could represent how the girl feels as if she is fading away from reality and is not outgoing - she's fearful. This feeling is reinforced by her position because it mostly hidden behind the house. The texture of the wood is rough and this creates a more natural feel to the photo. It's texutre contrasts to the smooth blackness. The black gives the photo more depth, so it gives the house a very spooky feel. It also makes the girl seem very lonely as there is nothing there with her. All Hess photos could be representing the same thing. This is because with the first photo, the girl is hidden being the wall, only showing part of herself, which implies fear - anxiety. With the second, she is covered in cob webs which could reflect how she is trapped by her own fears. It reminds me of a son that speaks of cobwebs in the mind, which refers to the fears that people have that make life difficult and trap them. The third photo has rope tied around her legs, the anchor being the butterflies. Commonly, butterflies represent anxiousnesss. This would mean that she is being held down by her anxiety and fears.
